Blue Sharks of the Atlantic: A Species in Peril
The blue shark (Prionace glauca) is one of the most widespread shark species, inhabiting temperate and tropical waters across the Atlantic Ocean. Despite their adaptability, they are increasingly threatened by industrial fishing, with millions caught each year as bycatch or for the global shark fin trade. The Azores, one of the last strongholds for these sharks, offer a critical refuge, but even here, their numbers are declining. This project documents their presence in the Atlantic, highlighting both their ecological importance and the urgent need for stronger conservation measures to prevent their further decline.
